A little about Nabima (BimBim)
Nabima arrived a late night in September 2000, after a long trip from up river. She was filthy, her hair in dreadlocks and she was the scrawliest little thing we have ever seen. She weighed in at only 1,6 kg, less than normal birthweight. She was approximately 2-3 months old. Nabima immediately won over everyone hearts with her gentle ways and her easy smiles. Though she had terrible nightmares, she seemed content during the days, napping in the hammock on top of one of the babysitters stomach or hanging from a small branch extended over her head. When she was approximately six months old she enjoyed hanging around in lianas, hanging on for dear life when she could make them swing. Her hair had grown long and dense with the most amazing colors ranging from blazing orange to deep wine red, and with her eyes slightly slanted she was the most beautiful orangutan we had ever seen. At the age of one year she was an experienced climber, having learned slowly but determined how to move from one tree to another, trying out various forest fruits, new leaves and ants. In January 2002 Nabima is now approximately 1½ years old. She still has the most beautiful long dense hair and her gentle ways. She is a bit of a loner and prefers her own company to that of the other bullies. She loves to cuddle after an hour or two in the trees, and we cuddle her as much as she wants. Then she feels safe and is off again.
