A little about Fito
Fito was handed over by a young woman who had had Fito given to her by his previous owner. The owner was to move to Java and left Fito with the young woman. Being a conservationist, even though working in a big palm oil plantation she thought Fito would be much better off at Nyaru Menteng than in his tiny cage. Fito was a little over one year old but tiny for his age. He weighed only 4 kg. He has great big eyes, short arms and legs and long, fluffy, soft hair of which 20% is totally white. The young woman told us that Fito did not like to be held not touched, and that he would only drink milk from a small blue bowl… and how right she was. Fito had been in a tiny cage with nothing to play with, nothing to hold onto… except his little blue bowl. Ths bowl had become his mother, his friend , his comfort… a place for his food. We doubt if the owner ever took him out during the half a year he kept him as a pet. So when Fito was suddenly taken out of his secure cage all he had to hold onto was his little blue bowl. Within a week at Nyaru Menteng he would accept to be held but still preferred to sit in his own basket… with his bowl. When stressed he would put the bowl on top of his head. He never cried, never came to us for cuddles or love… and how he hated when we tried to stroke him. It was one long month before he finally one day crawled out of his basket and onto a babysitters lap on his own. It was yet another long month before he started playing with his now favorite friend Ucok… and yet another two weeks before he initiated playing with us humans. Now he cannot get enough love, attention… and laughs. In August he now weighs 5.2 kg.
