COVID-19 poses a very real threat to the orangutans in our sanctuaries but we are dedicated to continuing the fight. Our friends at EthicalJobs.com.au are going to help us by matching your gift!
Due to the imminent threat of COVID-19 in Indonesia and the deadly effects it could potentially have on orangutans, we urgently need more medical equipment and supplies to protect the animals in our care.
The risk that orangutans can contract this deadly disease is significant, so we need to ensure they are protected and the sanctuaries in Borneo stay open. Our staff continue to work tirelessly to care for the orangutans, even if it means putting themselves at risk for COVID-19 exposure. We need your help to keep operations running.
Expenses for Personal Protection Equipment has increased by 237% or the equivalent of $14,000 AUD per month.
Income has been drastically reduced due to the closing of our offices, visitor centres, accommodations, and research sites. At the same time, panic buying has created scarcity and drastic price increases for vital animal care goods and personal protection such as masks, hand sanitizer and gloves.
It is imperative that we do everything possible to protect the orangutans in our care, as well as the 440 staff members that continue to devote themselves to working for the sake of the orangutans.
Since we cannot completely eliminate contact with the orangutans – as they need daily food and care – our focus is now on keeping our medical team, surrogate mothers, and technicians who work closely with orangutans in good health and in a safe working environment. BOS has also dedicated to continue paying those staff that are unable to work due to sickness.
But prices continue to rise while funds continue to dwindle…
With your support today we can continue to care for over 450 orangutans currently in our centres. Most importantly, with your assistance we can provide the necessary equipment to our staff members to ensure their safety and protect orangutans from the threat of this life destroying disease.
As the end of financial year approaches, there is really no better time for giving – double your gift today and the impact it will have on the lives of our staff and the orangutans in our care.
With us all standing together during such trying times, we are confident that we can overcome this current battle and continue to fight for the orangutans and the welfare of our friends in Indonesia who tirelessly and selflessly care for them.
